Established in 2011, the Grimaldi Trophy is the inshore race that brings the Riviera season to a close. Organised jointly by the Yacht Club de Monaco and the Yacht Club Sanremo, alongside the Yacht Club Cala del Forte, it takes place over three days and three legs between Sanremo, Ventimiglia and the Principality. The fleet is deliberately mixed: performance yachts, cruiser-racers, cruising yachts and traditional sailing vessels, ranging from 8 to 23 metres in length, entered by the most prestigious clubs in Liguria and on the Côte d’Azur. Racing by day, socialising by night, in keeping with the tradition of both clubs.

Three days, three legs and three ports for the same fleet. From Sanremo to Cala del Forte, from Ventimiglia to Port Hercule and then back to Liguria, the Grimaldi Trophy features a series of coastal courses out to sea, where navigation and tactical decisions are just as important as sheer speed. Between each leg, the crews gather ashore, in keeping with the tradition of hospitality upheld by the organising clubs.
An event conceived and organised jointly by Monaco and Sanremo, with Cala del Forte as the third host port. A single regatta, three race courses, no boundaries at sea.
Coastal races, offshore starts and a mixed fleet: sailing, boat set-up and tactical decisions make far more of a difference than the boat itself.
The cocktail reception hosted by the Monaco Yacht Club and the awards ceremony in Sanremo form part of the Trophy in the same way as the race itself.
The crews are gathering at the Sanremo Yacht Club. Skippers’ briefing, final checks on measurement certificates and safety, and last-minute preparations ahead of the first leg.
The fleet sets off westwards along the Ligurian coast towards Ventimiglia, where the boats spend the night at the port of Cala del Forte.
The second leg takes the fleet back into Monegasque waters and into Port Hercule, ahead of the cocktail reception hosted by the Monaco Yacht Club that evening.
The final leg heads eastwards to Sanremo, where the prize-giving ceremony will honour the top crews in each class as well as the overall winner.
